A NEVER-ENDING CARNIVAL
Without a doubt, one of South America's greatest contributions to football is the celebration. Admired and imitated on other continents, South American fan culture draws from the diverse cultural exchanges of the ten countries represented in this exhibition. In this section, we invite you to learn a little more about the fan clubs, stadium chants, and the props used in the stands. You will also find a map showing the fraternal relations between South American fan clubs and supporters.
On the friendship between fan clubs
The fraternal relationships between fan clubs across the continent have a wide variety of origins, ranging from matching colors, shared idols, international trips, and even solidarity in the face of tragedy. This web of alliances connects various points on the South American footballing landscape. To map out these schemes, we enlisted the help of Nicolás Cabrera, a researcher at the Observatório Social do Futebol [Social Observatory of Football] at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
