Really beautiful is our fight
The World Cup in Canada came bigger, with an increase from 16 to 24 participating teams. It also came as a shock: in a disastrous experiment, the tournament was played on synthetic turf, which caused frequent injuries. The revolt at this novelty, which had always been rejected in men's tournaments, fueled the need to fight for the modality's appreciation, which set the tone of the edition. The players' agenda was supported by women's social movements and had more reach in the press.
The Brazilians played until the round of 16, when they were eliminated by the Australians (1x0). In terms of visibility, the matches were partially broadcast on free-to-air TV channels (Band and TV Brasil) and pay TV (SporTV), reaching a significant audience of 35 million viewers. The final of the tournament repeated the dispute of the previous edition, between Japan and the United States. This time, the Americans won.
History:
Tamires
To go to the Canada Cup, Tamires had a more difficult farewell: that of her 7-year-old son Bernardo. The left winger, born in Caeté (MG), found in motherhood a stimulus to do her best on the field, but having a child raised doubts: would she, in fact, have a career in professional football? When she got pregnant, aged 21, she was going through an important moment of transition from youth to a senior team, and interrupted her trajectory for about 3 years. She devoted herself fully to her young son, but did not give up on taking up the sport again. As soon as she had the opportunity, returning to settle in São Paulo, she fought for space in a club and was hired by São Bernardo. In just over 1 year, she was chosen for the Brazilian national team. She won the Women's America Cup with the team in 2014 and participated in the 2015 Cup, the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the 2019 Cup, among other tournaments. In stadiums or from a distance, a small fan cheers a lot on his mother's matches.
